Perhaps the Lord is telling us to put off the hand-me-downs from Adam...

As you know (if you’ve read my previous blog) I have started scripture writing every morning. Today’s scripture was in Colossians 3: 5-10.
Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.
But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,
As I got to verse eight, I began to contemplate the words listed in this verse. On the surface we understand what the words mean. But out of curiosity I decided to look at what some synonyms might be for the words anger and wrath.

The first word anger was: annoy, aggravate, get on one's nerves... These stood out to me and caused me to contemplate how I have experienced these feelings but never considered myself angry.
The second was wrath: resentment, offense, stew... How easy it is to allow resentment to build and then we will stew on it by allowing our mind to dwell on it as the offense grows.
It would have been easy to think  I'm not so bad after all I don't speak with malice or blaspheme or use filthy language! But it says to put off all these — the whole group of sins. Not to select just a couple of them.

We are told to put off these sins and the analogy is similar to disrobing. The same way we would take off dirty clothes after working in the yard and would throw them in the laundry. We would never consider wearing such dirty clothes to a special event.
Maybe the Lord is wanting us to dress like Christians, after all Jesus Christ has given us the wardrobe of grace. He expects us to dress with the clothes of righteousness that He has provided for us.

Perhaps the Lord is telling us to put off the hand-me-downs from Adam.
