Ephesians 1:7-9
7 In Him we have redemption through His
blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
8 which he lavished upon
us, in all wisdom and insight
9 making
known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set
forth in Christ
When God redeemed us, He forgave us of all our sin and
removed the guilt and penalty of sin.
But, in our scripture verses for today we’re told that He
also gave us spiritual wisdom and insight for godly living.
That we are given the ability to understand God's will and
apply it to our life.
It’s in His Word that His Will is revealed and His spirit gives
us the desire and ability to understand and obey it.
And we have been given remarkable insight into all that the Lord
has provided for us, from today’s scripture verses.
We’re told that our Creator has not only saved us through
Jesus’ blood, but that forgiveness is not the only gift lavished upon us in
Christ.
That in Christ, the Father has lavished this forgiveness, “in
all wisdom and insight”
He has lavished us with these, because, we not only need our
sins to be pardoned, but we also need the knowledge of how we should live now
that we are born again… and how we are to live in this freedom without taking
advantage of God’s mercy or presuming upon His grace. (Rom. 6:1–14; 1 Peter 2:16)
For we need His wisdom and insight to accomplish this task, but
that does not mean that we always put this wisdom into practice,
For wisdom and insight to be effective, we must be willing
to work on it, to cultivate it, like we cultivate our gardens.
We are to cultivate what the Lord has already given to us in
Christ Jesus through prayer, the study of His Word and with the fellowship of other
believers.
If we do not continually cultivate this wisdom, we may lose
our ability to practice it.
Just like our
gardens, if we do little to cultivate the soil, and we scatter seed carelessly
on the ground, what we reap will be questionable.
Many believers think God's Will is vague or is hidden from
them.
Yet we’re told that He lavished us with wisdom and insight.
You see, until we are willing to align our lives according
to His Word… the Holy Spirit will not be able to direct us in our life.
Wisdom is a noun and is defined as:
the quality of having experience,
knowledge, and good judgment; the soundness of an action or decision with
regard to the application of experience.
So, Wisdom, is the ability to put what we know into right
action.
And we need the Lord’s wisdom to live for Christ.
This Wisdom is a gift of divine grace.
That when we are willing to seek and to put His directives
into practice, through prayer and contemplating His Word, that is when the Holy Spirit is able to direct our lives as
He brings to our minds this wisdom.
Thank God for the wisdom and insight He gives us through His
Word.
Ask for wisdom to respond biblically to every situation you
face today.
And to refresh your spirit with His truth.
God bless and have a great day!
