Psalm 127: 1 - 5
1 Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders
is wasted.
Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries
will do no good.
2 It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning
until late at night,
anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his
loved ones.
3 Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from
him.
4 Children born to a young man are like arrows in a
warrior’s hands.
5 How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He
will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.
(NLT)
Today I’m starting out with a question…
What things are the most important to us?
When I read verses 1 and 2 I see a parallel to the lives of
many families today…
So many spend their
lives getting up early and working into the wee hours of the morning… striving
to get the things they want and need.
Yet, for so many… in spite of their labor… money never seems
to stretch far enough.
And it’s good to work… The key here, is to think deeper than
that.
Why do we work and what do we work for… what do we rest
upon?
As our text today indicates… Unless the Lord builds the
house, it’s a waste of time.
Unless we rest our
life upon Christ and by His grace live in obedience to His Word, our house will
not stand.
God alone is the Ruler of the World; He alone is able to be
our Rock and Stability and will keep our house from falling.
And now I pose another question…
What is your attitude towards children?
You know, there was a time when a large family was always
considered a blessing of the Lord.
Today, however, it is politically incorrect- and some even
consider it irresponsible, to have a large family.
We’re told that our world cannot support so many people… so everyone
needs to do their part to curb the population growth!
Yet, the Bible says that children are a heritage from the
Lord…
Children are compared arrows in the hand of a warrior, and
they bring honor and not shame.
The Lord is telling us in these verses that children are
God's gifts to parents...
That they are given to them to raise and nurture for the
Lord…
That they are a gift from God to the parents.
***I encourage you parents, to enjoy your children, to love your children, and above all, raise them to love and fear God.
Teach them the truths of the Word; go to church with them…
set the example, so that you may worship God together as a family.
I hope everyone has a blessed day and be sure to leave a comment!
