I made this decision after praying for the Lord's guidance and wisdom about some issues with my health.
This time I was committed to it. Some of the 'other' foods I am avoiding are - all grains (including rice and oats), legumes (which are all beans, peas and even peanuts), and corn.
There is no processed foods in our house other then fruit preserves, mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup, (I honestly don't know if these are actually considered processed foods).
And absolutely no 'high fructose corn syrup' in any thing! Which you might be surprised just how much of this nasty little chemical is in different foods (yes it is chemically manufactured and is not the same as corn syrup). It's even in some tomato paste and sauce.
Another food I am no longing consuming is all artificial sweeteners, which includes chewing gum since I cannot find any without.
Also all commercially produced dairy products. By commercial I mean the products sold at your local grocery stores.
I now buy raw whole milk at my local family owned farm that offers all natural foods. Including local raw honey, cheeses made from raw milk, real maple syrup and much, much more!If you live in the Erie PA area you should check it out; the name of the store is Duran's Farm. It is on Route 97 in Waterford Township.
My first attempt at making gluten free, grain free yeast bread. This is also dairy free and made with almond and tapioca flours (which is why it won't raise like typical grain flours).
It was easy & yummy! Especially with some berry preserves on it!
I have been experimenting with some of my regular recipes and trying to convert them to gluten free. I have had a couple complete fails, but also some very good results too.
Today I made Lemon bread. I used my tried and true family recipe and just changed out the flour to Bob Red Mills 1 to 1 gluten free flour. Now this flour is not grain free; it is a rice based flour. However I knew that it would never work using a grain free flour. I honestly I could not imagine never having this bread again. It's been a family favorite around holidays for decades! And as I said earlier I am avoiding grain; but I will on special occasions enjoy some gluten free grains.
I also made flaxseed bread. This is not a yeast bread. It was very easy to make and was quite tasty. I think it would be a nice bread to serve with a meal. The recipe said it was a Paleo sandwich bread. It is definitely not a sandwich bread.
I'm still working on that and I'll let you know when or if I accomplish that!
For the last 3 months I feel so much better! Just a simple google search on different ingredients and what some [so called] foods are made of will cause your head to spin.
But it does take commitment and some self control.
Bon appetit!
