However now things have changed… I always enjoyed Facebook. But during the last couple of years, Facebook
has become a very different place. I
never “friended” everyone or anyone. Only people I knew, friends (some who I
haven’t seen in years), old and new neighbors, pastors that had transferred to
other churches, and my family. I also joined a few groups that were interesting…
like the local historical society, and our city’s unsolved mysteries page. But now the dynamics of Facebook are different. People are
posting crude sayings and drawings that borderline the obscene; believing it to
be humorous. Some are using Facebook to
vent their anger. Others are using it to promote their political agenda or to
advocate their societal views. Some are
using it to spread misinformation, for reasons that are unclear to me.
But I believe the biggest problem is how people [myself and my
own family included]; have stopped personally communicating with each other. It
is so easy to message someone. This isn’t terrible in itself, however… [As I have observed] is an easy way to
confront another without any confrontation. Things one would most likely never say
face to face are now said with ease. It’s
has become easy to say whatever thought comes to mind with no account of the others
feelings. This can easily become a
source of gossip. Especially now that
one can exclude specific people from seeing certain posts that others get to see.
What changes are on the way? I deactivated my Facebook account! I decided to change the format of this blog
and incorporate some of my daily life into it. Which will make my posts more frequent,
and hopefully it will be interesting as well as a learning experience.
