Proverbs 3: 5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.Notice, that there are two persons in this relationship - the one who trusts and the one who is being trusted.
You see, we are called to trust the Lord, to know Him and to develop a personal relationship with Him. Which involves so much more than just knowing about Him.
We are called to trust Him to do things His way, and in His own time. We are to trust the Lord with our all – our anxiety, our worry, and our needs, and there is no specific age that is a factor to trust the Lord.
Abraham was an old man, Moses in mid-life, David as a young man and Joseph as a teen - were called to trust God.
And to truly be able to trust in the Lord in this way, we must develop a relationship with Him.
The Bible says in Psalm 20:7: Do not put your trust in horses or bow or wealth, but trust in the Lord.
Here are a few Bible verses from God’s Word on why we can confidently trust in the Lord:
The Lord is our Strength – He is our power, our wealth, our property, our armour - Habakkuk 3: 19
The Lord is our Shield – He is our protector and our refuge – Psalm 28:7
The Lord is our Shepherd – He is our guide, our protector and our leader – Psalm 23: 1
The Lord is our Sustainer – He is our help, he bears us, he carries us and he brings us up – Psalm 54:4
The Lord is our Saviour – He is our rescuer, our deliverer and our help – Luke 2:11
The definition of TRUST in this context is: ‘The assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of God.”
He is the One in which our confidence is placed, and He is the One in whom we place our dependence on our future and our hope. And what a mighty God we have. Nothing can remove us or separate us from the love of Christ. Absolutely nothing.
And we are called to trust Him wholeheartedly… by giving Him full control.
Yet so often we don’t want to take our hands off. We don’t want to let go and allow God full control.
It is easy to say we believe in someone until we are called upon to put that belief into practice.
When we trust someone, we must be confident that they can handle our life situations with care.
As verse 6 in today’s scripture verse tells us: In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will set your paths straight. You see, we are called to trust the Lord, but often, there are times when we take it back.
Once we give it into the Lord’s hand, we must not take it away from Him. But leave it there in His hands… without reservation, hesitation or doubt. We need to wholeheartedly trust Him.
We cannot lean on our own understanding. We must not use our intelligence or our skills to interpret God’s way of working in our lives or to fulfill Gods purposes.
As we travel through this life, whatever the situations we may find ourselves in or the struggles we face or the decision we need to make… let’s not fix our eyes on the problem, but on the God who can overcome any problem.Whatever be the challenges we face, a particular need we are praying for or an anxiety we face in waiting, the best time for the Lord to answer is the time when he answers.
Life Happens…
Yesterday at church we sung two hymns: Leaning on the Everlasting Arms and Standing on the Promises.
Which is exactly what we are to do… [we are to] lean on Jesus, while we stand on His promises…
So, let’s come to Jesus Christ our Lord… leaning on Him and stand on the promises of God.
The question is: Are you willing to trust Him all the way? No matter what may be happening in your life or in the world today?
