What to do with 20lbs of Potatoes 🥔 Thirsty for Him

PSALM 63:1

O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Here, the psalmist is exposing his heart. He is not asking God for health; he's not asking for any material needs. The psalmist is focusing on his relationship with God and he sees the power of God through worship, even though, at the time, David was being hunted down and pursued by Saul. I’m sure that he most likely wondered if he would ever be able to go back to the comforts of home.

Yet, here in today’s scripture, David did not ask to go home to the comforts he would have there... No, he cries out that his body and soul is thirsty for the Almighty God. Has there been times in your life that you have grown weary of the battle and your soul cried out to God? David said that his body, his innermost being, longed for God—he desired something deeply personal.

Do you long to know the Lord in a deeper and a more intimate way? Often fear will keep us at a comfortable distance.

God wants to satisfy that longing within our heart and He desires for each of us to know Him more intimately. I want to give you three points to help in that area...

But first I want to give a little explanation, an analogy of sorts. Have you discovered when you are really thirsty, sugary products just don’t satisfy that thirst? You don’t want a soda or some sugary juice.  What you want is water—crystal clear, pure, and cool, water.  Nothing will quench your thirst like a refreshing drink of water.
So, my 1st point is:  If you want to satisfy the deep longing in your heart for God, get rid of the sugary substitutes... The nonsense of religion, the trappings of ceremony, and the glitter of bogus spiritual experiences. Paul spoke (in Eph. 5:26) of the washing of water by the Word.  He was talking of the purity of the Word which lets you know and experience God as He is.
Point #2: In order to know God intimately, turn off your media, including Christian music and take time to isolate yourself from the noise that keeps you from hearing His voice.
We need those quiet times, those personal intimate times without our phones, or people’s voices, or the noises of life.
Point #3:  Tell Him that you long to know Him more deeply. Be open and honest before Him.

In Psalm 143: 6 David cried out, “I stretch out my hands to You; My soul longs for You, as a parched land. And then in John 7:37 we’re told [that], “...Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink’”

Only God could say that... the thirst in our soul is there because God wants to satisfy that deep longing, and nothing will ever satisfy our souls but Him.

You see, one problem is that our society is filled with all sorts of things that grab and hold our attention and competes with our time and effort.

But it’s in the quiet moments of reading, prayer, and meditation that we will find peace for our soul, and spirit. This is what Billy Graham’s daughter, had to say about spending time alone with God:

“One reason I have maintained my walk with God is that no one else – not my beloved family or my close and loyal friends – really understands me.
No one else truly knows my fears and longings and hurts and dreams and failures.
But He shares my feelings, my loneliness.
Spending time with God as I “walk” with Him meets needs that are in the deepest part of me. He Himself is the solution to the loneliness of the human spirit.”
