1 Peter 5:8
"Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be
vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams
around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon
and devour." (Amp. Bible)
When we make God our focus, our priorities change. The
“things” in this world become less important and the relationships in our lives
become more important. We strive to be our best, not for our name’s sake, but
for God’s.
But we also realize that ultimately God is in control, so we
do our part but also allow God to do His.
We willing work hard but not at the cost of sacrificing our
families or relationships.
We also need to make sure to take time to enjoy the gifts of
time, family and friends that God has so generously given us.
You see, our lives and how we live them matter and we must
invest the gift of our days well - by focusing on God, loving him and making Him
the focus of all our efforts.
However, we are to also invest in and love those He has
placed in our life.
Being biblically balanced is very important in the Christian
life.
You see, Biblical truth pushed too far in either direction
can cause us to become unbalanced in our lives.
To give an analogy think of your car - it has four wheels and it is important that they be properly balanced for a
smooth ride. If the tires are unbalanced as you increase your speed, the
ride will become rough.
Yes, God is concerned with our Spiritual life, but He is
also concerned with every aspect of our being which includes, our Physical health:
Getting the proper rest, our nutrition, and even our daily activity.
He’s concerned with
our mental well-being and Our emotional well-being.
And He’s concerned with
our relationships such as, co-workers, Family and Friends which includes
church.
Maintaining a healthy, biblical balance is a lifelong
challenge.
And Balance is the key… with our eyes always fixed on the
Word and will of God. We are to be determined to know and practice those things
that are both, true and loving.
Because balance helps keeps everything in perspective.
In summary, …we need balance between the different parts or
areas of our lives: mental, social, spiritual, physical and vocational.
We need mental
balance between the: Mind, our Will and our Emotions
We need balance in
our physical lives: Rest, Exercise, Work and Recreation.
We need balance
socially: family vs. friends; believers vs. unbelievers
We need balance in
Christian doctrine: a truth pushed too far can easily become a heresy.
We need balance in
God’s Word. Not neglecting to read the Bible
We need balanced
prayer: devotion, confession, thanksgiving.
We need balance
between worship and our ministry.
Every Christian needs to strive in living a balanced
life.
And a Christian perspective to having a balanced life begins
by examining our relationship with God.
And I’ll leave you
with: 2 Thessalonians 2:16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our
Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace,
17 comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and
word.
God bless and I’ll talk to you again after Easter – Resurrection
Day!
