Ephesians 1 vs 15 and 16
15 For this reason, because I have heard of your
faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16 I do
not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the
knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened,
that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the
riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the
immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the
working of his great might
On Monday I spoke on our spiritual blessings in Ephesians
1:3-14; But I didn’t point them out. So,
let’s first quickly look at them:
The first blessing we have in Jesus Christ, is He chose us
to be His children! All to the praise of His glorious grace.
The second blessing we have is Salvation, we have been
redeemed, verses 7-12, and the purpose of
this second blessing is all for the praise of His glory.
The third is we’re “Sealed with the promised Holy Spirit”, v. 13 this blessing is also all to the praise of
His glory.
We must understand that the things God gives us, whether
spiritual or physical are always for His praise and His glory
alone.
They were given to us with the purpose that He [God] would
be glorified.

Now getting back to today’s scriptures:
From these verses, we are able to glean that the Ephesians
were faithful and loving in the Lord, since Paul is giving thanks to the lord
for these believers.
Now, remember, Paul is not talking here about how to receive
eternal life; he is writing to Christians about how to live out their life
in Christ.
And Paul tells them what he is praying for.
He is asking that the God, may give them the Spirit of
wisdom and revelation, so that they may know Him better. That the eyes of their
heart may be enlightened to understand the hope that Christ has given to those He
called, in His glorious inheritance.
It’s plain to see that we are to give God the glory in
everything and as believers we must continue to gain knowledge of God.
Paul prays that we would develop our new nature, our new
character, our new spirit of wisdom and revelation.
H. A. Ironside tells a story of a time when he was first beginning
to pastor as a young man, and went to see a godly man named Andrew Frazer, who
had come to southern California to recover from a serious illness.
Though this Irishman was quite weak, he opened his worn
Bible and began expounding the truths of God's Word in a way that Ironside had
never heard before.
He was so moved by Frazer's words, that his curiosity drove
him to ask, "Where did you learn these things? Did you learn them in some
college or seminary?"
The sickly man said, "My dear young man, I learned
these things on my knees on the mud floor of a little sod cottage in the north
of Ireland.
There, with my open Bible before me, I would kneel for hours
at a time and ask the Spirit of God to reveal Christ to my soul and to open the
Word to my heart. He taught me more on my knees on that mud floor than I ever
could have learned in all the seminaries or colleges in the world."
This man had the spirit of wisdom and revelation that
comes from spending time with God and His Word. There is no spiritual short cut
here.
It comes only with discipline and time.
God Bless!
