Hebrews 10:12 - 14
12 But when Christ had offered
for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,
13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a
footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offering he has
perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
Today’s scriptures are reminding us that Jesus' work of
redemption is finished… He is now seated at the right hand of God, the place of
power and authority. What He did cannot be undone…
Meanwhile, God is putting everything under Christ's feet.
And that is repeated throughout Scripture… as in: Ephesians
1:22, 1 Corinthians 15:27, Hebrews 2:8,
These verses remind us of Christ’s victory and triumph!
And is a statement of who God is and what He has done.
It is a declaration to us of our standing with God, and a
statement of fact where all else is to be.
Part of the process of putting all things under Christ’s
feet is described in verse 14 of our passage of scripture for today...
And perhaps verse sounds like a contradiction if we do not
understand this idea,
“perfected for all
time those who are being sanctified.”
Remember that God sees all time presently.
The work is done and yet it is in progress.
We are perfect before God from His eternal view.
Yet, many believers don’t understand why they struggle with
sin, if Jesus made us perfect, if we are a new creation in Christ, if our
heart has been made new, then why am I still struggling with the flesh, why do
I have to crucify it daily?
We need to understand that these struggles are true of every
“Born again” believer in Jesus Christ.
For we have been made perfect before God.
A transaction has been made.
We gave our sins - past, present and future [for all time]
to Jesus upon the cross.
We each received His righteousness like a credit to our
account.
Although it’s not yet what we always demonstrate in our
daily life, it is what the Father counts as ours!
This scripture should be encouraging to us.
Because this verse means that we have the assurance that we stand
perfected and completed in the eyes of our heavenly Father.
Our daily struggle with sin… our daily crucifixion of our
old nature, is putting the enemies under the feet of Jesus.
We are being made holy, we are being sanctified, and this
process will only be finished when we see Him. (1 John 3:2)
Sanctification is a
process… and it will be completed.
So, don't despair of the struggle… Battle on! … It is God
putting all enemies under the feet of our Savior.
For the last enemy will be death itself (1 Corinthians
15:26).
So, don't be discouraged. It is a work of God.
