Psalm 26: 7
That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving and
declare all Your wonders.
Thanksgiving is an expression of gratitude for the things we
have, the health we enjoy, and the people we love.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us: “in everything give thanks;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
We are to "give thanks in everything."
Having the right perspective helps us to be grateful. I’m
sure you’ve all heard to look at the glass as half full – not half empty.
And as I was preparing this devotion, I found this story
that I though helped put things in perspective.
In Budapest, a man goes to the rabbi and complains,
"Life is unbearable. There are nine of us
living in one room. What can I
do?"
The rabbi answers, "Take your goat into the room with
you." The man in incredulous, but the
rabbi insists. "Do as I say and
come back in a week."
A week later the man comes back looking more distraught than
before. "We cannot stand it," he
tells the rabbi. "The goat is
filthy."
The rabbi then tells him, "Go home and let the goat
out. And come back in a week."
A radiant man returns to the rabbi a week later, exclaiming,
"Life is beautiful. We enjoy every
minute of it now that there's no goat
-- only the nine of us."
This is a funny story that demonstrates how our perspective
in our circumstances can help us to be truly thankful.
How can we show gratitude?
In my husband’s morning message on
Sunday he mentioned 3 things we are to remember:
1st we are to
"look back" at what God has done for us.
2nd We are to "look up" and offer Him
our praise.
3rd We are to "look forward" to
what God wants to do for us.
We have much to Thank the Lord Jesus Christ for! He was a
model for gratitude throughout His life on earth.
And He is working all things together for your good.
As Romans 8:28 tells us: And we know that God causes all
things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called
according to His purpose.
We have an opportunity this Thanksgiving week, to practice
being thankful!
If we’re struggling today, let’s practice praising God in
thankfulness for all the good things He's done!
For He deserves all of our praise regardless of our
circumstance!
An unknown author wrote:
"If our greatest need had been information, God would
have sent us an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would
have sent us a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have
sent us an economist. If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent
us an entertainer...
But our greatest need was forgiveness, so God sent us a
Savior."
God bless!
