Cleaning up the garden ** Call upon Him in truth...

Psalm 145: 18
The Lord is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth. [NKJV]

Today’s scripture is a Psalm of praise by David as he declares that the Lord is near to those who call upon Him and to those who call upon Him in truth.

I’ve had people say to me that they do not feel that the Lord is very near to them. When they pray it’s as if their prayers are going nowhere…  as if God is listening to them…

Well, David understood something that you and I also need to understand…
He knew that God was with him no matter what was going on in his life and no matter how he felt…
If we back up and look at verses 15, 16 & 17
David declares that the Lord gives them their food in due season… and how He satisfies the desire of every living thing…
How the Lord is righteous in all His ways, and Gracious in all His work.
Then He goes on to write today’s scripture verse, “The Lord is near to them that call upon Him… and to all who call upon Him in truth.”

Yes, God hears our prayers… and He knows our circumstances and He even knows our situation…
What we need to remember, is what the palmist is telling us…
That the Lord is near those who “call upon Him.”

Yet, how often do we live our lives our own way and according to our own timetables and call upon the Lord mainly when we’re in trouble?

You see, Our Heavenly father longs for us to know Him in spirit and truth.

And if we want to have an intimate and honest relationship with God, then we have to be completely open and honest with Him at all times…

We should never go to the Lord in prayer while hiding our true feelings…
Whether that be jealousy or pride, or fear or even anger about something or someone…
[even though] None of us like to admit that we’re feeling sorry for ourselves or we’re struggling with feelings we know are wrong…

Until we are willing to turn to God in complete honesty, and say, "This is how I REALLY feel, Lord... and I need Your help."
Only then will we begin to experience the peace and the freedom that God wants us to lay hold of…

Now there’s another important point I want to make…
And that’s… how can we truly know somebody just by reading a book about them?
For example:
Just because we’ve read a biography about someone and some of the things they have done… doesn’t mean we know them… we just know a little bit about them…

And it’s the same with God…
Scripture is intended to give us understanding about God and to guide us into a true relationship with him.
The words of scripture are intended to be an avenue to the Author who wrote them.

And if we will adopt a perspective of gaining as much understanding about our heavenly Father as possible in order to know Him more.
Scripture will become a priceless resource to our lives.

God desires to transform every part of our lives…
And to truly be transformed by God is to invite him into every facet of ourselves and allow his love to do a mighty and necessary work
