Proverbs 3 29-30 –
29 Do not plan evil against your neighbor, who
dwells trustingly beside you.
30 Do not contend with a
man for no reason, when he has done you no harm.
To state this in a practical sense—
Don’t frustrate or take advantage of another person’s trust
and confidence.
Don’t reward your employer’s faith with an act of malice.
Don’t plow through another man’s field [i.e. his reputation,
testimony, life’s work] by betraying his trust with an act of treachery or duplicity.
So ask yourself:
Are all around you fully secure in their relationship with
you and in relating things to you?
Can your neighbor trust you with a key to his house and
cars?
Do church members know they can trust you with the intimate
details of their lives?
Can they trust you not to exploit their weakness for your
own advantage and that you would never share it with others?
Verse 30 of today’s scripture tells us…– [Do] Not contend
with a man for no reason, when he has done you no harm.
And this serves as a challenge to us to be a peacemaker.
You know, we live in a contentious day… where far too many
live with a short fuse… and are ready to quarrel, argue and pick a fight…
Yet… Our Lord, said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they
shall be called sons of God.” Matthew 5: 9
As Christians we are called to be peacemakers.
So how are we doing? Is this what we are known for? Does
this describe you?
