I was around 14 years old when I was first introduced to
coffee. In the mornings while I would be
in the kitchen having breakfast my mother would be reading her newspaper. She would dunk her toast in her cup of
coffee. On one of those mornings long
ago I asked my mom if I could dunk my toast in her coffee to see what it tasted
like; I was hooked. After time, she
started to pour me my own small cup, to use for my toast, but I was never
allowed to drink it. I can still remember many cold Saturday afternoons we
would spend sitting at the table looking out the kitchen window talking and we
would dunk Townhouse crackers in our coffee. But I was never permitted to drink any until I
was 16 years old, and then not on school mornings (I could dunk but not drink
it).
Ever since
I’ve been a coffee drinker, and it’s my preferred beverage of choice especially
when it is cold out. I still enjoy drinking
coffee with other people more than I do alone.

One note of importance is that with a French
Press you must grind your own coffee, because the grind needs to be courser
then the typical pre-ground coffee used with other coffee makers. You can buy all different sizes of a French
Press. I have a smaller one that makes 3 cups. Recently I tried to make Mocha Coffee. The
first try was barely OK, the second try a bit better, but on the third try I
had it down to a science.
So for all you coffee and chocolate lovers, here is the
recipe and the instructions for 2 large mugs…
After
pouring the hot boiled water into the Press; in a small carafe add 2
Tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder; 4 packets of Stevia, or 2 heaping
Tablespoons of sugar; and 4 Tablespoons of milk.
When the
coffee is ready, pour it into the carafe (with all of the above ingredients)
and stir vigorously, to blend. If you
don’t have a carafe you can use any glass or ceramic container, do not use
plastic or metal.
That’s it…
ENJOY!
The best
part is if you use Stevia and skim milk a large mug of Mocha Coffee is only 22
calories!
But if
calories is not a problem, add some whipped cream on top and you’ll think you
went to Star Bucks!
If your using whole milk and sugar with whipped cream it will be around 250 calories.
Let me know
if you try it, I’m sure a fresh brewed pot of hot coffee would work just as
well… just not as good!
I'd love a cup
